As we approach International Women’s Day on March 8, I would like to invite you to support and participate in this important celebration of women’s achievements and contributions in Canada and around the world.
This year’s theme, #MyFeminism, recognizes feminism as a powerful global movement that has led to progress for women and people of all genders. #MyFeminism is inspired by the feminists who have helped shape Canada into a country defined by freedom and equality – from the early suffragettes to the activists and allies of today who continue to lead the way towards lasting change. Among the voices calling out inequality, youth have emerged as powerful advocates for gender equality, becoming the new face of feminism.
In the coming weeks, I encourage you to celebrate International Women’s Day by joining the conversation on social media using the hashtag #MyFeminism. We would love to see your personal answer to the following question: What does feminism mean to you?
I hope you will join me in this year’s #MyFeminism campaign by encouraging people to share why feminism matters to them, promote the intergenerational exchange of wisdom, and honour the feminists who inspire us with their passion and commitment to creating an equal world.
